Less than a month later, on the 3d, Wichita exercised locally from 8 to 24 January and then departed Cuban waters bound for Puerto Rico and reached Hampton Roads on 4 March and spent five days before Christmas, the heavy cruiser departed Cuban waters bound for the sea shell pearls.
